How Trading Works in Adopt Me — Step-by-Step Guide

Updated May 2026 · For new and experienced traders alike

🔄 Trading is the heart of Adopt Me. Understanding how the in-game trade system works — and the etiquette around fair trading — is essential for every player.

How the In-Game Trade System Works

1

Find a Trading Partner

Trades can be initiated with any player in the same Adopt Me server. You can find trading partners in the trading plaza area of the map, in community Discord servers, or through platforms like Pet Bakery's trading post.

2

Open the Trade Menu

Click on another player's character or use the trade icon in the UI to send a trade request. The other player will receive a prompt asking if they want to trade with you. They must accept for the trade screen to open.

3

Add Your Items

Once the trade screen opens, both players see two sides — theirs and the other player's. Each player adds the pets and items they want to offer. You can only add items from your own inventory.

4

Review the Full Trade

Before clicking Accept, carefully read every item on both sides of the trade screen. Verify the species, variant (Normal, FR, NFR, etc.), and age stage of every pet. Do not rush this step — trades are irreversible.

5

Both Players Accept

For a trade to complete, both players must click Accept. If either player clicks Decline or leaves the game, the trade is cancelled and nothing changes. Once both players accept, the trade is final and permanent.

Trade Etiquette — Be a Fair Trader

The Adopt Me community has an informal code of trading etiquette. Following these norms makes you a respected trader and helps you get better deals:

  • Both sides should feel happy — a good trade is one where both players walk away satisfied. Aim for equal value on both sides.
  • Don't rush the other player — give them time to review the trade screen. Pressuring someone to accept quickly is a red flag and unfair.
  • Be honest about your pet's variant — clearly state whether your pet is Normal, FR, NFR, or MFR before initiating the trade screen.
  • Don't lowball excessively — offering far below market value wastes both players' time. A fair opening offer creates better conversations.
  • Respect a "no" — if someone declines your trade, accept it gracefully. Repeated trade requests after a decline is considered harassment.

What You Can Trade

In Adopt Me's in-game trade system, players can trade:

  • Pets (of any species, rarity, variant, and age stage)
  • Items such as potions, toys, and other inventory items

In-game currency (Bucks) cannot be traded directly between players. Third-party platforms like Pet Bakery let players buy and sell pets securely outside the game, with escrow protection for both sides.

Trading Through Pet Bakery

Pet Bakery's marketplace lets players buy and sell Adopt Me pets for real money with escrow protection. Unlike in-game trades, purchases on Pet Bakery go through a secure checkout: the buyer's payment is held until the seller delivers the pet in-game, at which point funds are released. This eliminates scam risk and gives both sides clear recourse if something goes wrong.
