Updated May 2026 · The complete variant reference guide
📖 Variant terminology is the language of Adopt Me trading. Understanding Normal, FR, NFR, and MFR is essential for anyone buying, selling, or trading pets — in-game or on Pet Bakery.
| Variant | How It's Created | Special Abilities | Desirability |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal (N) | No modifications — the pet as it was hatched or obtained | None (cannot fly or be ridden) | Baseline — the reference point for all other variants |
| Ride (R) | Ride Potion applied to the pet | Can be ridden by the player | Slightly above Normal — more useful than a non-rideable pet |
| Fly-Ride (FR) | Both Fly Potion and Ride Potion applied | Can fly and be ridden | Most common upgrade — the standard form for active traders |
| Neon | 4 identical Full Grown pets fused at the Neon Cave | Same as Normal unless potions are applied | Significantly more desirable — requires substantial effort to produce |
| Neon Fly-Ride (NFR) | Neon + both potions applied | Flies and can be ridden | One of the most actively traded high-value variants |
| Mega Neon | 4 identical Neon pets fused at the Neon Cave (= 16 Full Grown pets) | Same as Normal unless potions applied | Very high — represents a major investment of time or resources |
| Mega Neon Fly-Ride (MFR) | Mega Neon + both potions applied | Flies and can be ridden | Maximum possible variant — the pinnacle of any pet's progression |
When two players trade in Adopt Me, they're not just trading species — they're trading a specific variant of a species. A Normal Giraffe and an NFR Giraffe are the same species but dramatically different trades. The NFR has required 4 Full Grown Giraffes plus potions to produce, while the Normal is the base form.
Understanding variants means you can evaluate any trade accurately. When someone offers you "a Legendary for an NFR Ultra-Rare," you can reason whether that makes sense based on how each variant was produced and how they compare in general desirability.
For any given pet species, variants rank from least to most desirable in this order:
This hierarchy applies consistently across all pet species and rarity tiers.
