⚠️ Roblox Adopt Me scams cost players millions of dollars in virtual items every year. This guide covers every major scam type and how to stay safe — whether trading in-game or using a third-party platform.
Adopt Me's in-game trading system has no buyer protection. Once a trade is accepted, it cannot be reversed — even if one party was deceived. Scammers exploit this irreversibility, and the fact that many players are young and inexperienced, to steal pets worth real-world money.
The pets at stake are not just virtual items — an MFR Shadow Dragon on Pet Bakery sells for $400–$500. That's real money. Always treat Adopt Me trading with the same caution you'd apply to any online transaction.
How it works: The scammer proposes a fair trade, then at the last second swaps one of their valuable pets for a junk pet. By the time you notice, you've already clicked accept.
✅ How to protect yourself: Always read the full trade screen carefully before clicking accept. Take your time — there's no legitimate reason to rush a trade. If someone is pressuring you to accept quickly, that's a red flag.
How it works: Scammer suggests using a 'trusted middleman' for a high-value trade. The middleman is either their accomplice or a new account. Once both pets are sent to the middleman, they log off.
✅ How to protect yourself: Never use a middleman. Legitimate Adopt Me trades use the official trade screen. Pet Bakery's escrow system is the only safe alternative for USD trades.
How it works: 'Send your pet first and I'll send mine after to prove I trust you.' Once they receive your pet, they block you and disappear.
✅ How to protect yourself: Never send a pet first, no matter how much you trust the other person. Both sides always exchange simultaneously in a real trade.
How it works: Scammer sends a doctored screenshot showing a pet is worth far more than it is, or that a trade is 'fair' according to a fake value list.
✅ How to protect yourself: Check actual prices on Pet Bakery's marketplace — it shows real USD values based on completed trades. Never trust a screenshot alone as proof of value.
How it works: Scammer pretends to be Roblox support or offers free pets in exchange for logging in on a fake site, stealing your Roblox credentials.
✅ How to protect yourself: Roblox will never contact you through the Adopt Me game chat. Never enter your Roblox password anywhere except the official Roblox website. Enable 2-factor authentication on your account.
How it works: Scammer claims your common pet is incredibly rare and worth a legendary, convincing you to make a bad trade. Or offers you a 'great deal' that's actually massively in their favour.
✅ How to protect yourself: Always verify the actual USD market value on Pet Bakery before any trade. If someone insists a bad trade is fair and pushes hard, walk away.
Pet Bakery's marketplace removes the main scam vectors by moving transactions off Roblox entirely:
If you do trade in-game (not through Pet Bakery), follow these rules:
